Happy Thanksgiving!!!! I hope everyone has a fantastic week with loved ones... we all have so much to be thankful for!
The next two days will be some review and reinforcement of adding with regrouping. We will also be doing some fun Thanksgiving related activities and, of course, strengthening our ever growing reading skills!
Have an amazing three days off everyone! :) :)

*Friday there will be a special Veteran's Day celebration at morning assembly to honor those who have served and/or are currently serving our country.
*Keep an eye out for new reading logs this week.
*Scholastic orders have been placed, and will be sent home as soon as they arrive at school.
This week in...
Math: We have a short subtraction assessment on Tuesday. We will also be focusing on telling time to the quarter hour this week.
Language Arts: Students created new reading goals last week. This week we are discussing "self-assessing" our progress in reaching those goals. We are also focusing on identifying theme and details to support how we know that is the book's theme. We will also be learning about abbreviations.
Science: We will be continuing our experimenting learning about motion this week! Lots of fun had in 2nd grade science!
Social Studies: Map Skills, bucket filling, and growth mindset!
Have a fantastic week!! :)
Week of October 30
Happy Halloween!! I hope you all enjoy some nice family fun tomorrow night, as Halloween is a NO HOMEWORK night! Crossing my fingers the sugar crash isn't too hard for the kiddos on Wednesday! ;)
Reminder that I will be closing our first Scholastic order this Wednesday if you wanted to still order something! We will do one more closer to the holidays as well.
This week in...
Language Arts: We are setting new goals for second quarter! Your readers are "growing like beanstalks" (as we talk about in class), and it is time for some new goals!!! We will continue to focus on reading with expression, building our stamina, and reading for comprehension. We will also be strengthening our skills in written responses to reading and decoding tricky words! This week we are also talking about problem and solution as well as focusing on some new "batty" vocabulary words!
Math: Subtraction, subtraction, subtraction!!!
Science: Balance and Motion fun continued this week!
Social Studies: We will be learning about continents and oceans, as well as continuing to talk about directions and using maps.
......and of course, BUCKETFILLING! (hint, hint on my book character costume for tomorrow)
Week of October 23
I am so looking forward to meeting with each of you this week to discuss your wonderful students and their progress so far in 2nd grade!!
Please don't forget that Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are all half days for the students due to parent-teacher conferences. Students will NOT be eating lunch at school on these days. I suggested that the kids bring a good healthy snack to take them through the day since they will be eating later than normal at home. Students will be participating in various Arts Day events during the morning on those days.
The STEAM day logo contest (previously called Science Day) is still going on! Logos are due October 26th.

Math: We are diving into subtraction this week. This week will seem like review, but it will get harder very quickly. Also remember we are working on fluency and automaticity with our facts. Any extra practice will reinforce that math skill.
Language Arts: You should all be proud of your little writers! Last week we did a lot of writing, including publishing our small-moment personal narratives and both drafting and publishing friendly letters. This week we will be talking about Author's Purpose and focusing on both fiction and nonfiction texts. We will discuss how books about the same topic (ex: bats) might be written for different purposes. Keep up those reading logs! I'm so impressed with how much your kids have been reading and taking ownership of their reading goals.
Science: Balance and Motion are our focus this week. The kids have been enjoying doing fun experiments about these topics.
Social Studies: Map Skills and Bucketfilling.
Can't wait to see you all this week!
Week of October 16
Happy Monday everyone!
Wow! What a great first field trip to the Inner Space Caverns today... we had a blast and learned a ton!
If you have not already, please make sure you sign up for a conference spot for next week's conferences!!!! I am so looking forward to meeting with each of you.
We have filled up our fuzzy-compliment jar, and will be celebrating with a pajama party/fort day on Friday!
This week in...
Language Arts: We are finishing the publishing of our "small moment" personal narratives. We are also writing letters this week. We will continue to work with both fiction and nonfiction books by talking about author's purpose this week. Keep up that at home reading... your kiddos are building some amazing reading stamina!! Woohoo!
Math: This week we are reviewing topics taught in the first nine weeks as well as focusing more on telling time.
Science: Our field trip wraps up our units on rocks, natural resources, and caves. On Tuesday, students will get to explore, sort, and classify the treasures they uncovered at the Inner Space Caverns. We will also be starting our Balance and Motion unit.
Social Studies: We will continue to talk about map skills! This was so fun and interesting last week; we are loving it!
Don't forget that Socktober is all this month, and the library's pumpkin decorating contest continues until the 23rd!
Week of October 10
So sorry to all of you Cowboys. fans.... Go Pack Go! :)
(Sorry, I had to!)
On a school related note, please don't forget to go on Skyward to:
-sign up for conferences
-pay for upcoming field trips
We will also be doing a class Scholastic order if you would like to order any books for your kiddos in the next few weeks. This can all be done online using our class code: RLXG2.
This week in...
Math: We will be wrapping up topic 4 in math this week. Students will have a short test on Friday about comparing and ordering numbers up to 1,200.
Language Arts: We will be finishing and publishing our personal narratives. We continue to stress the importance of capital letters and punctuation in ALL writing we do in here and are hoping to really continue to emphasize this. We have also been discussing responding to the reading we do as a class using both verbal and written responses. The students are really grasping the importance of different reading skills and continue to work towards goals they set for themselves....its awesome to see!! :)
Science: We are learning about caves this week in preparation for our field trip on October 16!
Social Studies: We will be working on map skills. (...and bucket filling as always!)
We are very close to earning a classroom reward for filling our warm and fuzzies compliment jar, so stay tuned to hear what we vote on! :)
